All About COMPASS
COMPASS Wensleydale has been set up by Helen Hardill and Nikki Beales. They are both passionate about helping children and young people in the Dales to thrive.
Together they created COMPASS to help provide more opportunities for children in the Dales to take part in activities, learn new skills and most importantly HAVE FUN!
COMPASS was born during the 2020/21 Covid-19 pandemic. Helen and Nikki (like all parents and carers during this time) were acutely aware of everything our children were missing out on. Our children have missed opportunities to play out with their friends, to gain independence, and to just have fun and be children.
They hope COMPASS will provide a wide variety of additional opportunities to young people in Wensleydale, to spend time with their friends, to challenge themselves, and to develop resilience and confidence for life.
All About Nikki
Nikki has worked as an early years practitioner, running her own childminding business in the Dales, for almost 20 years. She strongly believes in the importance of viewing every child as an individual and building strong relationships with children and their families. She is keen to encourage children to gain confidence and independence through exciting, fun adventures.
All About Helen
Helen worked in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist for 20 years. She is passionate about promoting health and well-being. Her Occupational Therapy philosophy that the way we spend our time and daily activities and choices impact upon our lifelong health, is inherent in our ‘Compass Points’. She is a keen supporter of the environment and wants to encourage children to learn about nature and look after our planet.
Helen and Nikki have both volunteered with Girl Guiding throughout their adult lives. Helen led a project in Africa, volunteering with Brownies and Guides there. Nikki has led peer education projects as well as a wide variety of different residential opportunities. They are passionate about providing further opportunities for travel and adventure.
